Teran, a wine of unimagined potential

Grown from time immemorial in the vineyards of Istria, teran is a grape variety that yields excellent red wine which has an interesting nuance of astringency. Wine connoisseurs say that it is a passionate and unusual wine; it has a lively, unrestrained bouquet of forest berries, and its colour ranges from purple to ruby red. Teran pairs well with cheese, homemade pršut and meat dishes, and should be served at 18°C.

To those who were unfamiliar with its ‘soul’, this indigenous istrian teran might have seemed disharmonious. But this was in the past, however, when its unpredictable temperament was too great a challenge for the modest possibilities of old wine growers, so its unimagined potential had to wait patiently to be discovered.

Today we know that teran production calls for greater knowledge and that top quality results can be achieved only with much dedication and good wine-cellar skills. Today’s modern vintners are on top of this delicate mission; they have developed this treasured wine into a product that can stand side by side with the best respected wines on the world  stage.

Teran has finally awaited its moment of glory and is increasingly attracting the attention not only of wine makers and wine growers, but also of inquisitive travellers who explore Istria, led by the desire for a good drop of wine.
