Freshwater fishing

In Istria, apart from sea fishing, you can also try out the freshwater fishing. You can fish in the ponds at Cerovlje and it is possible to go eels hunting in the river Mirna.
From 1st April till 31st May is the closed season. During the other months you can fish carps, chubs, barbels, pikes and grass carps.

Fishing licenses are issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development through authorized providers for:

  • one day (daily license)
    80.00 kn(approximately 8.00 EUR) for fishery of all fish types (except for salmonid)
    150.00 kn (approximately 20.00 EUR) for fishery of salmonid fish types
  • the current calendar year (an annual license).
    The fee for an annual license for the Croatian and foreign citizens from 15 to 18 years of age amounts 200.00 kn (approximately 27,00 Euro).
    The fee for an annual license for the Croatian and foreign citizens from 19 years of age and over amounts 400,00 kn (approximately 54,00 EUR).

Daily license is valid 24 hours from the hour of purchase date specified in the license.
Annual license is valid from 00.00 a.m. on 1st January to 24.00 hours at the 31st December of the current calendar year specified in the license.

The authorized person of fishing rights issues to the Croatian and foreign national annual license with presentation of a passed fishing certificate.
Foreign nationals when purchasing an annual license must present proof of having passed the fishing certificate in their country. If they don't have it, they should pass the fishing certificate in the Republic of Croatia.
