Istria highly ranked in the “bible” of olive oils
The end of November is a very important time for the gastronomy offering in Istria. Namely, on 29 November of last year the 2015 edition of Flos Olei was officially presented at the Westin Excelsior in Rome.
For many years now, Istrian extra virgin olive oils have been ranked second only to Tuscany on the list of the world’s best olive oils. Flos Olei 2015 has once again confirmed the exceptional quality of this region’s oils. It all started quite some time ago, in 2005, when Istria’s olive oils were first mentioned in this prestigious guide. And since then their quality has gone from strength to strength.
Proof is in the figures and the figures show that the number of Istrian olive growers and olive-oil producers listed in the guide is steadily growing, from 52 in 2014 to 56 in 2015. Also the share of Istrian producers in the highest rated category of 90 or more points in also increasing. The number of producers in this category has jumped from 19 to 23, and the total number of points, from 4,520 to 4,957.
The highest rated Istrian olive oil in Flos Olei 2015, winning as many as 97 points out of a possible 100, was produced by Olea B.B. It should be noted that the best olive oil in the world received only a single point more than the Istrian winner.
And Istria boasts yet another top-class olive oil produced by the Enio Zubin Family Farm and listed among the TOP 20 olive oils in the world!
The Flos Olei guide is truly the “bible” of all olive growers, olive-oil producers and olive oil lovers, and the achievements of Istrian producers are indeed worthy of admiration.
