Night hiking to Skitača
In order to celebrate spring arrival Skitaci Mountaineering Club from Labin organizes the 12th night hiking to Skitača, a village in the southernmost part of the Labin peninsula with one of the highest peaks in Labin area.
Gathering is scheduled on Friday, March 22, at 8 PM in the main square in Labin Old town. The path runs through Gondolići on Labin Hiking Trail to Oštri top (531 m). From Oštri, the path descends next to St. Matthew’s chapel towards Skitača, where hikers are expected to come around midnight.
The route is technically undemanding and of medium difficulty.
You need to bring a headlamp and standard mountaineering equipment.
Labin spring gastro rhapsody takes place throughout April in restaurants located in Labin area. Asparagus (called šparuge in the Istrian dialect) are the key ingredient of local spring menus. They are prepared in numerous ways, either as scrambled eggs (fritaja), risottos, home-made pasta called pljukanci and fuži with Istrian ombolo (smoked pork), or home-made bread seasoned with asparagus. Adriatic cuttlefish is caught in late winter and early spring, near a rocky coast, and the most famous specialties are cuttlefish stew (brodetto) with polenta and the black cuttlefish risotto.
The 100 miles course is the hardest and the most beautiful course that we offer. It stretches from the eastern part of Istria, over its highest mountain down to the mainland, and ends on the western part of the peninsula in the city of Umag.
Along the route you will experience every possible aspect of trail running - really technical terrain, a little bit of coastering, old medieval towns, deep forests, city centres, old train route, muddy valleys, all spiced up with breathtaking panoramas. The course starts in the 3000 years old town Labin, climbs the Učka mountain and descends in Buzet where your drop bag will wait for you.
After the well-deserved rest, the trail leads you to the smallest town in the world, the town of Hum, then to the medieval pearl Motovun and back to the finish in Umag.
169,5 km with 6.632 m doesn’t seem so hard but trust us, this course is very demanding and it shouldn’t be taken lightly.

After a whole day walk get refreshments at enjoy the ever cheerful atmosphere in the mountaineering house Skitača, one of the most beautiful of its kind in Croatia.
The trail requires standard mountaineering equipment and sun protection.
Average trail duration is 12 hours.
